Living in Lewisburg
Education
Residents of Greenbrier County are proud of and take great interest in their public school system. County schools and businesses participate in an active "Partners in Education" program in which schools and businesses such as The Greenbrier, Westvaco and ABB Process Analytics are linked in mutually beneficial one on one relationships.
Schools
Elementary Schools
All elementary schools are equipped with computers and software programs to enhance learning opportunities. The schools use the open court reading program which enables students to read and write proficiently at an earlier age. Some of the elementary schools use whole language and integrated instruction strategies to promote learning. The curriculum emphasizes the development of basic skill competencies and with great success.
Junior High School
Eastern Greenbrier Junior High School was completed in 1992. This state-of-the-art facility offers programs for the gifted and handicapped, satellite courses in languages and vocational-technical programs. In 1997, the county voted a bond issue to construct a similar facility in the western part of the county and Western Greenbrier Junior High School is currently under construction.
High School
The county has two consolidated high schools, Greenbrier East and Greenbrier West. Both schools offer college preparatory programs, vocational-technical and general and special education programs that meet the needs of all students, including the gifted and the handicapped. Satellite courses in English and foreign languages come directly to both schools from Oklahoma and Kansas State Universities. Both schools have strong extra curricular programs and excel in sports and music.
Community College
The Greenbrier Community College Center of Bluefield State moved into their newly renovated and greatly expanded facility in 1998. With an enrollment of nearly 600 full and part-time students, the school currently offers degree programs in Lodging Operations, Law Enforcement, Corrections, General Education, Early/Middle Education and Multi Subject Education. Additional courses are available in Business and Computer Science.
West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine
The mission of WVSOM is to provide family physicians for rural West Virginia and Appalachia. A quality four-year medical education program has been tailored at WVSOM to meet West Virginia's special health care needs. In 1997 a new ambulatory care clinic was opened on the Lewisburg campus. In its twenty-five years of operation the school has graduated 1,162 physicians. WVSOM also serves the educational needs of the community through seminars and on-campus science enrichment programs for the county's public schools.

The cultural center also hosts award-winning arts in education programming, classes and workshops, museum exhibits, fine art and craft shows and a fine/foreign film series.
